Brian Holland
Venture Partner, Business Owner and Chairman
CLA
-
Brian Holland was born in Chester, PA and attended Quaker Friends schools, from elementary grades through high school. He has an enduring passion for science and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, with majors in both biology and chemistry. As an undergraduate lab technician at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he was a member of the neonatology research team that revealed and published evidence of the deleterious effects of smoking on fetal birth weight.
Brian began his professional career in Big Pharma with Merck, Sharp & Dohme. A quick rise through roles of increasing responsibility in QA/QC, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Advocacy and Professional Relations, and HR led him to executive levels with other multinational, Fortune 100 companies like Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and Johnson & Johnson. He has over 20 years of disciplined business building experience in both domestic and international markets.
While growing up in an “under-served” community and attending schools in affluent suburbia, Brian was profoundly informed by the disparities he witnessed. His career in Big Pharma also allowed him to witness the impact of healthcare disparities. In 2009 Brian left Big Pharma to pursue private equity and entrepreneurship. He joined a private equity firm focused on small to mid-cap businesses with corporate social responsibility as a central theme. While there, he developed a keen interest in vended laundry as a vehicle for affecting social change in under-served communities. He is now a venture partner for Swanlaab USA Venture Factory.
Recognizing the incredible and uncapped value of “laundromat dwell time”, and the potential of laundries as alternative learning sites in under-served areas, Brian and colleagues entered the vended laundry industry in 2012. The Laundry Cafés are now a collection of supersized facilities that leverage the power of corporate partnerships, health networks, and academic institutions to conduct cost free on site programs – including breast cancer and prostate cancer awareness, cardiovascular health and stroke prevention, veterans support, financial literacy, non-partisan voter registration, clothing drives, and children’s literacy. After strong attendance and many successful programs,
The Laundry Café then partnered with the Coin Laundry Association, Ready Nation, and the Clinton Foundation’s Too Small to Fail Campaign to join the challenge of addressing childhood literacy.
Brian is a proud member of the Coin Laundry Association (CLA), and for several years served locally as the President of the Delaware Valley Affiliate Chapter for Pennsylvania, New Jersey & Delaware. In 2015, he was elected to the CLA National Board of Directors, and now serves on the executive committees of both the CLA, and the Laundry Cares Foundation (LCF). He is currently Chairman for the Coin Laundry Association, with a two-year term ending in 2025. Beginning in 2025 he will become Chairman of the Laundry Cares Foundation.
Brian is honored and excited to serve on the board for The One10Ten Foundation.
